Last year, literally hundreds of million of people’s secret and sensitive information were opened and oversimplified, and then collected into various lists from the dark web to be sold. Sustained acts of cybercrime and poor security measures once more resulted to significant violations of privacy in 2018 : the biggest, according to two studies, was of Aadhaar of India.

Haryana Police Leads in Cyber Security

Haryana Police ranked first in the country in preventing cyber fraud in 2024. Haryana Police saved about Rs 268.40 crore from cybercriminals as compared to Rs 76.85 crore in 2023. Thus, three times more money was saved from cybercriminals in 2024 as compared to 2023 and five times more than in 2022, said the Haryana Police in a statement. The DGP said that the police are also taking strict action against cybercriminals and sending them behind bars. In 2022, 2,165 cases were registered against cybercriminals, while in 2023, 2,747 cases and in 2024, 5,511 cases were registered.

Hyderabad, Telangana Cyber security Bureau

Hyderabad, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has arrested 165 cyber criminals from across the country during the last six months. This suggests that the operations most probably took place between April 2024 and November 2024. She said that this is the first time since its creation that the bureau has started apprehending accused involved in cybercrimes. These arrested cybercriminals were found involved in 795 cases in Telangana and 3357 cases across the country.

The World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Risks Report 2019 adds that the largest data breach was realized in India where the government ID database- Aadhaar-was reported to have been breached multiple times with records of all the 1.1 billion registered citizens being compromised. The database was being sold by criminals for Rs500 for ten minutes in January that year while in March(2018), a state-owned utility company (INDANE) leaked information and anyone could download names and identification number.
